Google recently released the latest version of Android which is known as Android Oreo for Nexus and Pixel devices as well as Android Oreo Open Source. Now developers already start working on building a ROM based on Oreo and finally we have the first AOSP Android Oreo-based custom ROM for Moto Z Play. Now the good news is that you can experience the latest Android Oreo OS on your Moto Z Play phone. Make sure that your Moto Z Play must be rooted, and a custom recovery like TWRP or ClockworkMod (CWM) should be already installed on it in order to flash this AOSP Android Oreo custom ROM on your device.

Android Oreo Rolling Out for the Motorola G5 in India

Moto G5 Plus Fully Spec’d Out Version Is the Ideal Phone Purchase for Those on a Budget

Before the likes of Xiaomi took the mid-range smartphone market by storm, Motorola was one of the best companies that offered decent specced devices for those on a budget. The company's current devices, albeit powerful, lose out against the likes of the Poco F1. To make matters worse, Motorola hasn’t been as great at rolling out updates to their devices. At best, one can now only expect them to push only one major system update.

The long overdue Oreo update for the Motorola is finally rolling out in India starting today. As speculated earlier, Motorola skipped the Android Oreo update and went straight with Android Oreo. Despite the Moto G5, Moto G5 Plus, Moto G5S, and the Moto G5S Plus are capable of running Android Pie, the chances of devices actually receiving it seems grim. One will very likely have to rely on third-party, community made ROMs.

Android Oreo rolls out for some Moto G4 users in Brazil

Motorola Moto G5 Android Oreo update

The Moto G5 launched with Android Nougat, and soak tests for the Android Oreo update have been going for quite some time in Brazil, which is where the stable release rolled out first as well. Lenovo/Motorola typically updates in waves for system updates so it is difficult to the exact date when the update will be available in other regions. Historically, Brazil and India were the two regions with the highest concentration of Motorola device owners, so it comes as no surprise that the regions got Oreo first. It is less than ideal that the device is getting Oreo nearly a month and a half after Pie has been out, but given Motorola's track record, it is how things are.

Don't go for Motorola, Even though devices are good, but totally suck on the name of UPDATES. Think times before buying, or you can go for Custom ROM.

Will Moto G4 share the Oreo love?

Motorola releases list of devices that will get Android Oreo

Now that Android Oreo is out in the wild for Google’s Pixel and Nexus devices, now the attention turns to Android manufacturers to see what devices will get the update and the speed at which they receive the updates. Motorola is one such manufacturer, and with a slew of Android devices under its belt, it’s time to take a look at which will get Oreo.

Taking a look at the list, the more notable omissions are the Moto G4 Play, Moto G4, and Moto G4 Plus, all three of which were released in Even though they were all upgraded to Nougat, it looks as if that will be the last major Android update they will receive, which is a bit of a letdown but something that has become a trend with budget smartphones.

This is Motorola’s first Android One phone, likely coming to the US

Also of note is some of the language Motorola uses with certain devices, whose Oreo updates are “pending partner support.” Keep in mind that, even though Motorola is behind the updates, the carriers are the ones that push them out, unless the device is unlocked. As such, you should also pay attention to your carrier if you have any of the Z-branded phones, since they are the ones who set the update timetable for their phones.

Finally, the list does not include the upcoming Moto X4, which looks to be the first Android One phone to launch in the US. Then again, the Moto X4 isn’t even available for purchase in the country or around the world yet, so keep your fingers crossed that an update to Oreo is in the works.

You can see the full list of Motorola devices getting the Oreo update below:

  • Moto Z2 Force – AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon
  • Moto Z2 Play – Verizon, unlocked
  • Moto Z Force – Verizon
  • Moto Z – Verizon, unlocked
  • Moto Z Play – Verizon, unlocked
  • Moto G5S Plus – unlocked
  • Moto G5 Plus – unlocked
  • Moto G5 – unlocked

Do you think Motorola has dropped the ball when it comes to the lack of an Oreo update for the Moto G4 family? How long do you think it will take these phones to receive the Oreo update? Let us know in the comments!
