Legendary Super Saiyan (伝説の超サイヤ人,Densetsu no Sūpā Saiya-jin) is an extremely powerful and rare Super Saiyan transformation. It is a Berserk state[13] with a seemingly endless supply of energy, said to appear once every thousand years.[14]

As of Dragon Ball Super it is generally just referred to as Super Saiyan in its initial stage, and Full Power Super Saiyan when bulked up fully.[15][16][17][18][19]

It is the Super Saiyan B-type (サイヤタイプ,Sūpā Saiya-jin Bī Taipu) of the Broly-type Super Saiyan forms, it is a Super Saiyan which has evolved differently from the graded forms and levels 2 and 3[4], and is the Final Form of the standard Super Saiyan[3] form, which it is a powered-up version of.[1] Vegeta states that this state may be the "true form" of the Saiyans.[20]

The Legendary Super Saiyan is a being of immense power spoken of in an ancient Saiyan folklore[21], and Broly's form is referred to as being the "Legendary Super Saiyan" due to the user's love of destruction and slaughter - just like the Super Saiyans of legend[4], and it is noted that perhaps this instinct-driven form is the true Super Saiyan spoken of in legends.[1] It is the true appearance and form of a Saiyan.[22] A user of this form is referred to as a Legendary Saiyan.[14]

This form was created by Dragon Ball's animation company Toei Animation and its full power golden hair design was created by the original Dragon Ball manga author, Akira Toriyama.

The official production design for the Tournament of Power arena refers to Kale's form as "turning into Broly" (ブロリー化,"turning into Broly").[23]

When Toriyama created the Dragon Ball Super incarnation of Broly, he chose to ignore the Legendary Super Saiyan form's green hair when creating his design, and so Naohiro Shintani decided to add it as a "Full Power" version of the form.[24]

The Legendary Super Saiyan's appearance is quite distinguishable from the regular forms of Super Saiyan.

In Dragon Ball Z: Broly - The Legendary Super Saiyan, the hair color is yellowish green. When powering up to his full power in this state Broly's hair changes from a green color to the golden glow of an ordinary Super Saiyan, as he does at the end of Broly - The Legendary Super Saiyan and for the entirety of Broly - Second Coming. Bio-Broly also possess the golden hair at all times when in this form.

In the colored manga and Dragon Ball Super: Broly, Kale and Broly's Legendary Super Saiyan in its initial state possess golden hair similar to a Super Saiyan.

When transformed to the Legendary Super Saiyan and its higher level in the anime Kale's hair is solid green and her eyebrow is still yellow like ordinary Super Saiyans. With Broly in Dragon Ball Super: Broly, when powered up to his Full Power Super Saiyan form, his hair and eyebrow color is completely bright green.

In the colored manga as well as some promotional material for the Broly film[25] and for most of the battle in the Dimension of Strange Swirling Lights in the film itself, Broly's full power form has golden hair like an ordinary Super Saiyan (but of a slightly darker tone in the colored manga).

The most noticeable difference between the form of the Legendary Super Saiyan and the regular Super Saiyan is the body size. When a Saiyan transforms into this form, their body grows in height and their muscle mass greatly increases, making it similar in appearance to the Super Saiyan Third Grade transformation. In addition, unlike the Third Grade of Super Saiyan, this Final Form of Super Saiyan actually increases the user's height. In Broly's case, he's said to grow to be 3 meters tall.[26]

During its initial appearance under Kale's usage, the form possessed the electricity sparks similar to Super Saiyan 2.

In this form, the user's pupils and irises vanish, making them look much more maniacal than normal. When used with the Wrath State, on occasions where the user's pupils and irises do re-appear, they are the same as that of Wrath State, being yellow in color.

Usage and Power

This form is first awakened with intense sorrow.[26] In Dragon Ball Super: Broly, Broly takes on this form by becoming a Super Saiyan while already in his Wrath State. Interestingly, Kale does not require the Wrathful state in order to become Super Saiyan, possibly due to Universe 6 Saiyans having evolved to no longer having access to Great Ape power or the Wrathful form is not necessary to access Super Saiyan.

As noted by Cabba and Caulifla, this form is known in Universe 6 as a demon Saiyan who rampages and whose power grows constantly - eventually to the point that it kills them, meaning the transformation cannot be used for long without risk of death if it is used for too long. The form is also an extreme example of a transformation that relies on power[27] and so is predictable and easy to evade despite its great speed. When the form starts to have an effect on the user's health, their power and speed start to drop drastically.[28]

The Legendary Super Saiyan form is a powered-up version of the first Super Saiyan form,[4] Due to this, taking enough damage in this state will revert the user to the previous form.[29] It is similar to the Super Saiyan Third Grade level but unlike Third Grade, Legendary Super Saiyan's speed is "ultra first-class",[3] which is demonstrated by how Broly in this form managed to effortlessly dodge a combined front from both Goku and Piccolo as well as Broly using several clothesline maneuvers. In addition, unlike Super Saiyan Third Grade, the form has the user increase in height significantly. The power increase given from this form is unconfirmed, though according to one guidebook this form is stronger than an ordinary Super Saiyan[1] but weaker than Super Saiyan 2.[3] In this form, Broly's power, speed, strength, energy, and endurance increase drastically, exceeding the power of the Dragon Team at the time they fought him. Since his power level in this form is so massive, Piccolo stated that Broly's ki can be felt all the way from Kami's lookout. Broly has been shown to take extremely powerful attacks without so much as flinching, meaning he was at least twice as strong as the individual Z Fighters who fought him.[1] According to V-Jump, Broly's power level in this form during his battle against the Z Fighters on New Planet Vegeta was around the 1,400,000,000 range.

In the Dragon Ball Super anime, Kale in this form seemingly possesses greater power than Super Saiyan 3 Goku, she also initially appears to overpower Super Saiyan Blue Goku with this form but later is shown inferior to Goku's Super Saiyan God despite being in an even more powerful Super Saiyan 2 state. In the manga, Kale's power in this form is strong enough to knock around the non-serious Golden Frieza, break Perfected Super Saiyan Blue Goku's guard - though Frieza notes he could defeat her if he got serious. After she powered up further she is able to knock the likes of Top and Perfected Super Saiyan Blue Vegeta off the tournament arena at the same time, eventually eliminating a majority of the fighters, including several of her own teammates such as Magetta - whom she threw off the arena, as well as the Universe 3 fusion Agnilasa, though a combination of her berserker mentality and effectively being weakened and by her own power taking a toll on her causes her to struggle against the lesser Pride Troopers.

In Dragon Ball Super: Broly, Broly is powerful enough that in the initial version of this state he is able to simultaneously overwhelm Goku and Vegeta while they were in the Super Saiyan Blue state (Perfected Super Saiyan Blue in the manga), battle Golden Frieza for an hour and then fight on par with Super Saiyan Gogeta, however even after reaching full power he is no match for Super Saiyan Blue Gogeta.

Users of the Legendary Super Saiyan form, or at least Broly, seem to have enhanced regenerative abilities and healing factor in comparison to normal Saiyans.

This form is the B-type of the Broly-type Super Saiyan forms - and is the most powered-up Super Saiyan form of the three basic types, the B-type Super Saiyan form is referred to as being the "legendary Super Saiyan" due to the user's love of destruction and slaughter - just like the Super Saiyans of legend.[4]

When a Saiyan transforms into this form, they cause the sky and the environment to change color twice or three with the new Broly (DBS) , often ending in a gray/dark blue look. Directly before he transforms, Broly's cheeks quiver and then simply rip apart; the same occurs for his eye sockets and chest. It seems that instead of Broly simply enlarging when he transforms, the Legendary Super Saiyan form bursts forth from his body. This also occurs in Kale on the final occasion that she takes this berserker state. Normally, however, the bursting forth from the body does not occur in Kale, nor does it occur in Bio-Broly or Broly (DBS). Broly (DBZ) also seemed to just grow in size before Paragus narrowly reasserted control over him on New Planet Vegeta. In addition, unless forced out of the transformation, the user also simply has the transformation fade out normally, which is shown with Broly prior to going into a seven-year coma in Broly - Second Coming. Once this form is in use the user is usually taken over by rage with little judgment to spare and solely becomes a rampaging monster with the lust to kill.

Unfortunately for the user, maintaining the form usually requires a massive release of a significant amount of energy, if left unchecked, the buildup of energy would destroy the user from the inside out. Keeping the energy might cause the form's user severe fatigue as seen before he released their energy in a devastating way and may cause them to revert to their normal form and tire them out very quickly. Interestingly, Broly did not suffer from this stigma in his second appearance, hinting that he may have overcome the form's limitations. The form can also be incredibly hard to maintain for early users, causing them to pass out after being in the form for too long. When used by Broly in Dragon Ball Super: Broly, it was noted in the novel that he seemed to possess unlimited stamina when using the golden haired non-full power version of the form, as he never tired nor did his power drop even after more than an hour of battling Golden Frieza.

Users of this form possess a heavyweight fighting style; using crushing moves, and grabs to overpower his/her opponents rather than lots of fast and powerful punches and kicks like most other fighters in the series use. Their energy is also unique, being a shade of green (though Paragus is shown to have green ki too).

Dragon Ball Z

In his first appearance, Broly fought and completely dominated Goku, Gohan, Vegeta and Future Trunks in their Super Saiyan (Goku and Gohan) and 2nd Grade Super Saiyan forms (Vegeta and Future Trunks), and Piccolo in his Super Namekian state, all at the same time, with his opponents being unable to hurt him in the least. Even a Super Kamehameha from Goku at point-blank range failed to inflict any damage to Broly. It was only after everyone donated their powers to Goku that he was able to focus all of their energy into a single punch, and it nearly killed him.

In his second appearance, Broly, after transforming into his Legendary Super Saiyan form, goes head to head with Gohan in both his Super Saiyan and Super Saiyan 2 forms and easily overpowers him. However, Gohan puts up a much better fight than he did last time, and one of his blows even managed to stun Broly. Broly is only then defeated with the combined help from Goku, Gohan, Goten, and Trunks.

In his third appearance, Broly's clone Bio-Broly transforms into his Legendary Super Saiyan form after simply catching sight of Goten to awaken both the Saiyan instincts and personal vendetta of his source material. However, the Culture Fluid deforms his physical form to the point that he no longer resembles his source material. He easily dominates Goten, Trunks, Krillin, and Android 18, but is defeated by Goten, Trunks, and Krillin's Multiple Kamehameha when ocean water solidifies his culture fluid body.

Dragon Ball Super

In the anime, Kale achieves the form[30] through self-loathing and anger through Cabba and Caulifla being friendly with each other. She proceeds to attempt to kill Cabba, however she drops out of the form after Caulifla tells Kale that she has no interest in Cabba.

Kale uses this form in the anime version of the Tournament of Power to easily overpower Goku while in his Super Saiyan 2 form and even proving able to withstand a point-blank Kamehameha from Goku in his Super Saiyan Blue state, walking right through it. She then processed on her rampage against Goku as he was surprised at how powerful she is, she then grabbed his face and as she did so her power seemed to overwhelm her body and forced her to toss Goku away and leak out her overflow of ki. Kale then demolished the entire Tournament of Power stage with her ferocious power and even caught the attention of all the Pride Troopers with her mighty voice. This form was finally defeated by Jiren with a Power Impact and forced Kale to revert back to base form. Caulifla refers to this form as "ultra super power". Other sources refer to this usage of the form as being her Super Saiyan 2 state.[31]

Kale's emotions allow her to control this form and attain her own Super Saiyan 2 form. Kale transforms in this form again from Super Saiyan 2 transformation and was able to take out three Pride Troopers with Caulifla, reverting back to normal afterward from exhaustion. In order to prove herself worthy in her own eyes to Caulifla in their tag battle against Goku, Kale once again goes berserk, however, her bond with Caulifla allows her to gain complete control of this state, turning her Super Saiyan 2 form into a "true legendary Super Saiyan".

In the manga, Kale transformed into this state in anger at Frieza and proceeded to rush him down. As Golden Frieza prepared to get serious, Goku then interfered with the battle and fought Kale with his Perfected Super Saiyan Blue - to which she managed to break his guard, only for him to be kicked out of the way by Frieza. Kale then powered up to her full power before dashing past them and creating an explosion of energy from her body that knocks out several fighters in the tournament. As she begins rampaging in this state, Kale's strong enough to nearly knock out Vegeta (who had to use an energy blade to ground himself near the edge) and Toppo (who had to be pulled back into the arena by Dyspo.) Kale proceeds to knock out the remaining fighters of Universe 4, and proceed to eliminate Agnilasa in a single kick, eliminating Universe 3. Following this, Kale eliminates the remaining members of Universe 2, before finishing off Universe 10 by eliminating Obuni.

At this point, the drawbacks of the form begin to show themselves as Kale is unable to differentiate friend from foe, picking up Magetta and tossing him out of the arena single-handedly, before also knocking out Saonel and Pirina as they try to talk sense back into her. Cabba reveals that Kale is in fact the "Legendary Saiyan," and if she doesn't come to her senses she'll continue rampaging until she self-destructs. As Cabba attempts to reach her, Kale knocks him out of the ring, though Cabba is saved by Vegeta. Though the Pride Troopers are briefly shown struggling against Kale, Vegeta points out that they've seen through her and that she has begun losing power and is at her limit.

Using the initial version of this form, Broly battles Goku and Vegeta in their Perfected Super Saiyan Blue forms in the manga.

In Dragon Ball Super: Broly, Broly transforms into this form after seeing his father's dead body. Broly unleashes a vibrant, flaming green aura. His energy is capable of causing the atmosphere to violently shift colors. Right before transforming, his sclera flash red and his pupils and irises actually shatter into blankness, marking Broly's transition into his berserker rage. Upon fully transforming, his hair takes on the standard yellow hue and his skin is noticeably paler.

Broly is able to outmatch Goku and Vegeta in their Super Saiyan Blue forms even diving through their Galick Kamehameha with ease. He fights Frieza in his final form and easily beats him around, he then proceeds to fight Golden Frieza for around one hour before finally beating him to the point he cannot fight back. Broly craves battles in this form and even tried to attack Whis, who easily avoids his attacks without effort, showing Broly in this form is no match for him. Later Gogeta, the Fusion Dance of Goku and Vegeta appears to fight him. In this form while fighting he was able to push base Gogeta to transform into Super Saiyan, and they both seems evenly matched in terms of power, as Broly could match Gogeta's Kamehameha with his own energy attack, with the resulting clash breaking through dimensions, but Gogeta's superior skills soon gave him a decisive edge to land many blows on Broly while Broly struggled to keep up with Gogeta and hardly landing any blows, although he still endured with little hindrence to his performance. In the end, Broly's power grows again and he transformed into his Full Power Super Saiyan form. In the light novel however, Broly reverts back to his regular Super Saiyan form towards the end of his fight with Gogeta.[32]

Super Saiyan Broly and Super Saiyan Gogeta shatter through dimensions as they fight until Broly powers up into his Super Saiyan Full Power state, shrouded in a green aura. In response, Gogeta activates Super Saiyan Blue to regain the upper hand. Ultimately, Gogeta prevails over Broly, who is narrowly saved from a lethal Full-Force Kamehameha by Cheelai, who wishes Broly back to Planet Vampa, helping Broly calm down and return to his base form in the process. Cheelai and Lemo join him on Vampa, while Goku approaches them with supplies (including Capsules, a Capsule House, and two Senzu Beans) and offers to train with Broly.

Dragon Ball Heroes

In the anime, Broly uses this form when interrupting Dark KingFu's battle with Super Saiyan BlueVegito and Super Full Power Saiyan 4 Limit BreakerXeno Vegito, charging in to take on the two fused Saiyans himself. Later Broly uses the form in the Pseudo Universe to attack Goku, Hearts, Frieza and Meta-Cooler before he is lured off to fight the Warrior in Black Clothes.

Full Power

The Legendary Super Saiyan form reaches its most powerful when powered up to its maximum, referred to as "Full Power Super Saiyan" in promotional material for Dragon Ball Super: Broly.

In Dragon Ball Z, the full power state is identical to the regular form, albeit with golden hair identical to an ordinary Super Saiyan, while in Dragon Ball Super the full power state is bulkier than the ordinary level, and in the anime and part of the Broly film possess green hair.

Higher Levels

There also exist final form versions of the Super Saiyan 2 and Super Saiyan 3 forms. When controlled by Kale, the Legendary Super Saiyan 2 possesses no berserker traits.

A Legendary Super Saiyan who manages to take on a godly form also achieves a state much different from either Super Saiyan God or Super Saiyan Blue.

Hybrid States

Main articles: Great Ape Broly and Super Saiyan 4

The Legendary Super Saiyan form can be combined with the Great Ape, creating Broly's equivalent of Golden Great Ape. Through this form, the Super Saiyan 4 and Super Saiyan 4 Full Power forms can be attained.

As a fusion of the two, Kefla's Super Saiyan form possess traits from Caulifla's Super Saiyan form and Kale's Legendary Super Saiyan form.

In the anime, when Kefla transforms into this state her power is so massively great, that she was able to go toe to toe with Super Saiyan Blue Goku, and was able to land massive damage to the older Saiyan when he let his guard down, despite being empowered by the Kaio-ken. This prompts Goku to activate his Ultra Instinct powers, Kefla then responded by ascending into the second level of the state.

In the manga, Champa comes up with a plan to use the potara that Caulifla stole before the tournament. As Kale is knocked out of the arena by Tupper, Cabba jumps out to rescue her, attaching the potara to her ear as Caulifla attaches one to herself, before Cabba tosses her back into the ring, knocking himself out. Caulifla and Kale then fuse while in their respective transformations, combining into Kefla who is in a hybrid state of both Super Saiyan and Legendary Super Saiyan.

Kefla then proceeds to knock out all of the Pride Troopers except Jiren, Toppo, Dyspo, and Kahseral, before setting her sights on Goku and Jiren, before Gohan deflects a blast directed a Goku and challenges her. Despite the fusion, Gohan proves to be an even match for Kefla. Before lamenting the fact she couldn't take down a single Saiyan, Kefla and Gohan take each other out in a double knockout, ending Universe 6's run in the tournament.

Karoly also possess a form which is a mixture of Goku's Super Saiyan form and Broly's Legendary Super Saiyan form, though it is different from Kefla's.

Dragon Ball Z: Broly – The Legendary Super Saiyan

1993 Japanese film

Dragon Ball Z: Broly – The Legendary Super Saiyan, known in Japan as Dragon Ball Z: Burn!! Hot Battle - Fierce Battle - Super Fierce Battle (Japanese: ドラゴンボールZ 燃えつきろ!!熱戦・烈戦・超激戦, Hepburn: Doragon Bōru Zetto Moetsukiro!! Nessen Ressen Chō-Gekisen) or by Toei's own English title Dragon Ball Z: The Burning Battles, is a 1993 Japanese animescience fictionmartial arts film and the eighth Dragon Ball Z feature movie. The original release date in Japan was on March 6, 1993 at the Toei Anime Fair alongside Dr. Slump and Arale-chan: N-cha! Clear Skies Over Penguin Village. It was dubbed into English and released by Funimation in 2003.

The antagonist Broly was created by Takao Koyama and was designed by series creator Akira Toriyama.[1] This film is the first of three titular movies featuring the character, followed by Broly – Second Coming and Bio-Broly in 1994. The character also appeared in Dragon Ball Z: The Real 4-D at Super Tenkaichi Budokai, a cinematic attraction at Universal Studios Japan in 2017.

In 2018, a reboot film titled Dragon Ball Super: Broly was released and served as a retelling of Broly's origins and character arc, taking place after the conclusion of the Dragon Ball Super anime.

King Kai senses the destruction of the south galaxy by a Super Saiyan and realizes that the north galaxy will be targeted next. He telepathically contacts Goku who begins tracking the Super Saiyan's energy.

On Earth, a spaceship interrupts a picnic and army of humanoid alien soldiers greet Vegeta as their king. Their leader is revealed to be Saiyan named Paragus who claims that he has created a New Planet Vegeta and wishes for Vegeta to accompany him in order to assume the Saiyan throne. Vegeta agrees after Paragus tells him that the Legendary Super Saiyan is running rampant throughout the galaxy and must be stopped. Gohan, Future Trunks, Krillin, Master Roshi and Oolong accompany Vegeta onto the ship.

On New Vegeta, Vegeta meets Paragus' son, Broly, who joins him in tracking the Super Saiyan on other planets. Gohan, Trunks, and Krillin explore New Vegeta and discover that it is uninhabited except for the alien slaves who reveal that a Super Saiyan obliterated their civilization. The slave masters begin to abuse them but they are defended by Gohan when Goku arrives. Paragus greets Goku and he invites them to dinner at the palace where Broly appears agitated at the mere sight of Goku. Paragus calms his son by using a device on his bracelet that syncs to Broly's headband and yet despite this, Broly attacks Goku in the middle of the night requiring Paragus to calm his son once again. Goku suspects that Broly is a Super Saiyan and Paragus contemplates the mind-control device and suspects that it is malfunctioning due to Broly responding aggressively to Goku. Paragus theorizes that Broly's violent Saiyan instincts are awakening as a result of Goku's power, then remembers they were born on the same day in an attempt to explain their fated encounter after all these years.

Goku and the others confront Paragus upon learning the truth about Broly as his aggression toward Goku swells to the point of breaking free of the mind control device and he finally transforms into a rage filled behemoth - the Legendary Super Saiyan. Broly attacks Goku who is defended by Trunks and Gohan while a fearful Vegeta loses his will to fight. Paragus taunts Vegeta while revealing that Broly was born with a power level of 10,000 and was feared by King Vegeta to the point that he ordered the infant's execution. Paragus failed to persuade King Vegeta to spare Broly who was pierced in the abdomen by a knife and left for dead with his father while Frieza destroyed the planet that same day. Broly's survival instincts caused him to shield himself and Paragus and they soared off into space protected by Broly's power. Broly grew unstable and sadistic as he aged and Paragus was forced to use a mind-control device to pacify his son but planned to use him to exact his revenge on King Vegeta's bloodline and convert the Earth into new Planet Vegeta. Paragus reveals that a comet is currently on approach toward New Vegeta and will destroy it upon impact.

Goku, Gohan, and Trunks are dominated by Broly until Piccolo arrives and heals them with Senzu beans. They engage Broly again but continue to be severely outmatched. After being scolded by Piccolo, Vegeta's pride returns and he confronts Broly but is quickly incapacitated. Paragus prepares to escape the doomed planet in a small space pod before he is confronted by Broly and killed. Despite Broly's power continuing to increase, Goku manages to challenge him yet again and he is mercilessly beaten as he asks his allies to lend him their energy. After much reluctance, Vegeta finally gives Goku his energy who is able to use it to strike Broly directly in the abdomen, reopening the wound he suffered as an infant which causes the Legendary Super Saiyan's power to become unstable and he explodes.

Just as the comet strikes and destroys New Vegeta, Goku, his allies, and the slaves cheer as they manage to escape in Piccolo's spaceship.

Dragon Ball: 5 Ways Broly Is The Legendary Super Saiyan (& Why It's Really Goku)

The first time that Dragon Ball Z fans learned of the concept of a Legendary Super Saiyan (a form only achieved once every thousand or so years by an ancient warrior) was during the Frieza Saga. When Goku became a Super Saiyan for the first time, the general consensus from both fans and characters alike was that Goku was, in fact, that legendary, once in a lifetime warrior.

RELATED: 10 Marvel Supervillains Stronger Than Broly, The Legendary Super Saiyan

Then, Broly - who was literally dubbed as "The Legendary Super Saiyan" in his onscreen debut - changed the narrative. He created an entirely new debate regarding which of the two is most powerful and, more importantly, who has a bigger claim to earning the Legendary Super Saiyan namesake.

10 GOKU: Broly's Nickname Isn't Canon

For fans assuming that Broly's nickname already makes him the de facto candidate to be the Legendary Super Saiyan, it is not canonically confirmed for Broly to be the actual Legendary Super Saiyan mentioned in legends. Unlike his non-canon movie debut, it's not even Broly's official nickname.

Anything and everything that fans know about the Legendary Super Saiyan has been assumed but never confirmed. There is still a lot regarding the legend itself that fans don't know, and so no one can accurately peg down Broly as the one and only Legendary Super Saiyan, especially when there is enough evidence in favor of Goku disputing it.

9 BROLY: He Achieved A Form Goku Couldn't

Ever since Kale emerged as the Legendary Super Saiyan in her own universe, the term Legendary Super Saiyan has been used to refer to less of a singular character and more to refer to a particular form. Only a one-of a-kind powerful warrior can be able to achieve such a form and despite arguably being arguably Universe 7's strongest fighter, Goku has not achieved such a form.

Goku has evolved into several different Super Saiyan forms, but not the actual Legendary Super Saiyan form that matches Broly's size, bulk, and power level. The fact that Broly can do something that Goku can't already makes him the stuff of legends.

8 GOKU: He's Achieved More In Lesser Transformations

Keeping that last part in mind, it is worth noting that although he has never achieved a form of equal power level to that which is called the Legendary Super Saiyan (or a Berserk Super Saiyan form), Goku has achieved far more than Broly has in what theoretically would be considered lesser Super Saiyan states (in terms of power levels at least).

For example, in just an original Super Saiyan form, Goku was able to defeat Frieza, something so many before him tried but failed. To his credit, Broly did beat up Frieza for an hour straight, but only Goku delivered a killing blow.

7 BROLY: He Destroyed An Entire Galaxy

Although non-canon, Broly's actions in The Legendary Super Saiyan movie at least give viewers a hint to the strength which canon Broly has, since both seem more or less of the same power level.

Goku has saved the universe and the galaxy within it about ten times over, but to destroy an entire galaxy singlehandedly might be a harder feat to accomplish. In The Legendary Super Saiyan, Broly is able to destroy the entire South Galaxy in the blink of an eye with little to no effort. Even if he wanted to, it's doubtful that Goku's powerful enough to do the same.

6 GOKU: He's A Super Saiyan God

Besides the fact that an all-powerful Super Saiyan appeared 1,000 years ago, the legend of the Legendary Super Saiyan has never been fully established and explained, as far as the full extent to this supposed legend's power.

If fans had to guess, it is very likely that the power of this Legendary Super Saiyan at the very least was equal to that of a Super Saiyan God, which in itself is equal to the combined power of six good-hearted Saiyans. That is a form that Broly has never and likely can never achieve, which pits Goku a notch above him in that regard.

5 BROLY: He Might Be Stronger Than Beerus

By the same sword, Super Saiyan God Goku was not strong enough to beat Beerus, an actual God of Destruction who defeated Goku in a battle. There is a brief moment in Dragon Ball Super: Broly where Goku remarks that he thinks that Broly might actually be stronger than Beerus.

If that's true and Broly really is stronger than literally a God, then Broly may be stronger than a Super Saiyan God. More importantly, if Broly's stronger than a God who has singlehandedly conquered and destroyed planets, then Broly is stronger than anyone else in the universe could imagine.

4 GOKU: Grew Into The Perfect Warrior

At birth, it can be argued that Broly was literally born into greatness as his power level was off the charts when he was only a toddler, while Goku's was unusually low. While that should be a point for Broly, it's a point for Goku because it's all the more impressive that he grew into becoming one of the world's strongest fighters.

While Broly was only ever trained by his father, Goku received training from all-powerful mentors ranging from Master Roshi to King Kai to Whis. Using all of his knowledge and techniques from such a unique variety of teachers, Goku was able to gradually become stronger over time and become a legend in his own right.

3 BROLY: He's Stronger Than Super Saiyan Blue

Canonically, it has been established in Dragon Ball Super lore that Super Saiyan Blue - and especially Vegeta's Perfected Super Saiyan Blue transformation - is the strongest form that a Super Saiyan could possibly achieve.

With that said, once he turned into his Legendary Super Saiyan form, Broly was able to defeat both Goku and Vegeta in their Super Saiyan Blue forms. The two had to fuse and become Super Saiyan Blue Gogeta just to match Broly in power and even then, it was still a tough fight.

2 GOKU: He Beat Broly

This delves into non-canon territory once again, but it is nonetheless a point on Goku's board that cannot be ignored, the Z-Fighter defeated Broly by himself in the latter's onscreen debut. It was retconned as a non-canon debut when Super eventually came around, but when the debate arises between Goku and Broly, one cannot ignore that one defeated the other.

It is also worth mentioning that in Broly's non-canon trilogy, he was beaten not once, but twice by Goku's children, Goten and Gohan. The supposed legend couldn't beat Goku or his kids.

1 BROLY: Goku Couldn't Beat Him, Gogeta Barely Could

Back into the canon, when Broly and Goku actually officially fought in Dragon Ball Super: Broly, the former gave the latter a run for his money. Broly beat down Goku so badly that he was forced to retreat in hopes of creating a more powerful adversary by fusing with Vegeta.

However, even Gogeta struggled to defeat Broly. There was a moment in the battle's conclusion where it looked like Gogeta was seconds away from delivering a killing blow, but because Broly was wished away with the Dragon Balls just in time, audiences will never know if it would have been enough to put the beast down.

Dragon Ball Super: Broly Broly SSJ transformation (English Dub)

Legendary Super Saiyan (伝説の超サイヤ人Densetsu no Sūpā Saiya-jin) is a unique and very rare Super Saiyan transformation rather than just a title. The result is a Super Saiyan with a seemingly endless supply of energy. In the movie Dragon Ball Z: Broly - The Legendary Super Saiyan, the main antagonist, Broly, is (as the title suggests) the Legendary Super Saiyan, a warrior that tales tell is the single strongest fighting being in history. Broly's final transformation puts him in a class of his own.

This form was created by Dragon Ball's animation company Toei Animation, in order to create the idea that there was a single individual Saiyan who possessed a Super Saiyan transformation that was genetically exclusive. It is also stated in the OVA, Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans that a Legendary Super Saiyan destroyed the Saiyans' original home planet (this one being the Original Super Saiyan).

The Legendary Super Saiyan's appearance is quite distinguishable from the regular forms of Super Saiyan. The legendary Super Saiyan's hair color is greenish-yellow. When he reappears in Dragon Ball Z: Broly - Second Coming movie, his hair color has a slightly greenish-yellow tint; much less of a tint than in Broly - The Legendary Super Saiyan due to the fact that he is no longer under the control of his father, Paragus.

In this form, Broly's pupils and irises become seemingly invisible, making him look much more maniacal than he already is. The most noticeable difference between the form of the Legendary Super Saiyan and the regular Super Saiyan is the body size. When Broly transforms into the Legendary Super Saiyan, his body grows in height and his muscle mass greatly increases, making it similar in appearance to the Ultra Super Saiyan transformation. However, unlike the Ultra Super Saiyan form, Broly's immense size does not affect his speed. His skin also becomes very pale in color.

In Dragon Ball Z: Bio-Broly, Bio-Broly appears as a Legendary Super Saiyan before he becomes deformed.

Usage and Power

In this form, Broly's power, speed, strength, energy, and endurance increase drastically, far exceeding the power of all the Z Fighters at the time they fought him, and continues to do so steadily as long as he remains in the form. Since the power level in this form is so massive, Piccolo stated that Broly's Ki can be felt all the way from Kami's lookout. Broly has been shown to take extremely powerful attacks without so much as flinching. For example, in his first appearance, Broly fought and completely dominated Goku, Gohan, Vegeta and Future Trunks in their Super Saiyan forms, and Piccolo in his Super Namek state, all at the same time with his opponents being unable to hurt him in the least. Even a Super Kamehameha from Goku at point blank range failed to inflict any damage to Broly. It was only after everyone donated their powers to Goku that he was able to focus all of their energy into a single punch, and nearly killing him. In his second appearance, Broly goes head to head with Super Saiyan 2 Gohan and easily overpowers him. However, Gohan still puts up a better fight than he did last time, and even some of his blows managed to stun Broly (but Gohan was still not a challenge to Broly). Broly is only then defeated with the combined help from Goku, Gohan, Goten, and Trunks.

Broly's physical and energy attacks are also unique. In terms of physical attacks, he often uses clotheslines, crushing moves, and grabs to overpower his opponents rather than lots of fast and powerful punches and kicks like most other fighters in the series use. His energy attacks are all a green shade in color and there are three main types that he uses: a single sphere of energy, a large number of energy spheres being fired at once, and acompact energy sphere that, upon hitting the target, rapidly grows into an enormous energy bomb of huge destructive power. Broly uses and controls the first version to make it very difficult for his opponent to escape from it, the second version to destroy cities, and third and most powerful version to destroy planets, or to counter his opponents' attacks.
